Dear Penny,

In Feng Shui, many of us try to apply what is generally good for everyone i.e. where it works for most of us.

In many other cases, it need not necessary be a `bad' practise to some of us.

For example:-

1. It is mentioned that it is not advisable to place a mirror facing the bed.

Some of us are more sensitive to this issue and feel uncomfortable with a mirror at such a location. For some others, there is no problem or `issue' with placing a mirror facing the bed.

2. In your case, for example, if you have for many years or months, have been placing a plant in your bedrooom without any ill effects, you may continue to place it rather than to use an artificial plant.

If you ask an experienced Feng Shui practitioner or Master; they would be trying their best to apply " BEST " practises that WORKs most of the time for MOST people.

And try to discard, practises that do not often work.

Looking at the bedroom, there are many variables involved i.e. the location of the bedroom i.e. West facing ? North facing? East facing?

For example, a west facing bedroom may tend to become hot especially if part of the wall soaks in sun light and in the evening, the wall could still retain the `heat' etc...

Each of us have different degrees of `tolerance' with regards to the balance of Yin over Yang.

For some of us, we cannot stand a too yang bedroom while for some others, they prefer a slightly more yang bedroom even if yin is the preferred choice for rest.

Thus, one good lesson here is to remember that each of our circumstances may differ.

For a situation where, e.g. a plant is suppose to create more yang (growing) than yin but if there is no `negative' effects on us, this can be acceptable.

We should therefore, try to see whether FS can suit our circumstances and it does not automatically mean that what is `bad' for some may be `bad' for others.

Warmest Regards,
Cecil
